Merry Christmas!! (Already?)
Josh and I would really love to have a few new things for the house soon, but with Christmas approaching, those things are likely to be a pipe dream. I have 5 nieces and nephews, 4 siblings & in-laws, an aunt, co-workers, and parents to buy for and Josh has a nephew, sister, BIL, parents, co-workers and friends to buy for. That all adds up QUICK, especially when your name is Josh and you over-spend on gifts. :-)
So, on Sunday, I had the thought, Hmm, maybe instead of buying each other gifts this year for Christmas (Josh works Christmas Day anyway), we could buy stuff for our house instead. It was a fleeting thought, though, and I went back to what I was doing.
Last night, Josh and I were catching up after work when he says, Hey babe, so I was thinking, instead of buying each other gifts this Christmas, we should take the money and spend it on stuff we want for the house.
Great minds think alike, right? :-)
So, what's on our Christmas wish list??

We laid on our friends' $5k T*mpurp*dic the other night and were in love. We don't have $5k to drop, but this one at the O is only $299. Does anyone know anything about memory foam mattresses? Do they generally abide by the you-get-what-you-pay-for principle? Do tell! We would rather invest a bit more money to have something we really love instead of skimping and ending up with something we hate!

Josh wants a "solid" headboard so he can actually lean on it (instead of our current iron one). We have a lot of dark wood on the walls in our bedroom, so I have this wild hair to re-finish the armoire (that's now dark, but the finish is in pretty bad shape) & purchase or refinish some matching nightstands. Amibitious? Seems that way.

I will gladly rearrange the living room if I can have a comfortable couch to lounge on. Yes, please. The hand-me-down sitting room couches from my parents' house are just not cutting it anymore.
And lastly, certainly not least, but definitely the most expensive...

We have three options here: 1. Replace our stack-able with another stack-able. We don't like this option, but it is the cheapest. 2. Tear out the closet altogether, leaving an exposed stacked new washer and dryer in the kitchen, as I know some people do. This will require tile work, major construction, and wood ceiling refinishing. Definitely the most expensive option. 3. Leave our current closet alone and replace with the above machine. It's just as small as the current stack-able washer/dryer, but it has a larger capacity. It's a washer & dryer all-in-one and it is vent-less. I've read mixed reviews about it. Have any of you heard about or tried an all-in-one?
Now, if money grew on trees, we'd be sitting pretty. Unfortunately, we'll be hoping that Josh's 2nd job comes in as handy as we hope it will! We also want to buy a smaller dining room table, a smaller hutch and a computer armoire. Man... looks like I need to get a 2nd job, too!

Great minds do think alike! That bed and couch looks COMFY!
ReplyDeleteGo bed shopping first - maybe there is something better then the memory foam ones!! You should just make a day of furniture shopping so you can decide on pricepoints and start saving ;)
ReplyDeleteSoo cute that the house has become "our" house and that you wanna buy "house stuff" - it sucks getting old!!
I was just thinking how I needed to get started on Christmas shopping too. I'm going to have to hide this post from Matt because he'd KILL for a new mattress!
ReplyDeleteI'm like you, I have a zillion people to buy for! I said the same thing to Ryan, only instead of stuff for the house, I suggested we plan for a vacation in June!
