Welcome Back
Welcome back to the work week, bloggy friends!! I took a ton of pictures this weekend, which are sitting on my camera, begging to be edited, but Josh doesn't work again until Wednesday, so you'll have to wait until then for pictures. :-)
I will share one picture & a story, though...
My parents arrived at the lakehouse around 3:00 on Friday. Josh and I didn't leave town until 3:00, so we got there about 6:00. Y'all, this place was ghetto. [Short back story: We originally rented another lake house that we had stayed in before - 3BR/3BA - about 2000 square feet with a huge porch, yard, and dock. About two weeks before we were to leave, the owner called and cancelled, stating "damage" was sustained in a storm and would take until June 2 to repair. That left us scrambling to find the only other place on the lake that could sleep 8 people.] Our replacement house was an 1100 square foot doublewide on two lots - one maintained, the other overgrown. The dock happened to be on the overgrown lot. To get there you had to cross a "bridge" made of steel beams and fencing laid on it's side. The dock was about 2' wide and was raised out of the water about 4'. The water was 1' above normal, so I can't imagine trying to get off your boat with a 5' drop and no ladder!
When Josh and I arrived, it was storming like crazy. I looked outside, and the boat was about 150 yards away. It looked like it was sitting a bit low in the water, so I commented on how low it was. My dad thought it looked low, too, but they have a bad, bad rep when it comes to that boat and the plug. [Once, my dad forgot to put the plug in when the boat was brand new, and it almost sunk in the river. Then, when it was about 6 months old, he parked it in the driveway and forgot to take the plug out, so it flooded with water after a rain storm and ruined all the wiring. AJ also put it in the inlet once and forgot the put the plug in, almost sinking it (and me).] We don't play when it comes to the plug anymore, so my dad went down to the dock and found the boat with about 6" of water in it.
My parents had bought a plug at Wally World (note: do not buy a boat plug at W-M!) and it had fallen out in the lake somewhere between the landing and the dock. The boat was sinking!
Thankfully, we were able to pull it up into the weeds long enough for my parents friends to show up with their boat and an extra plug. It was already past 6:00 on Memorial Day weekend and we were at least 30 minutes from civilization. If they didn't have an extra plug, we'd have been calling someone to pull the boat off the bottom of the lake. Although, we did try a wine cork (too small) and eventually resorted to a plastic bag and rubber band in the meantime. Desperate times!
If there's one thing you should've figured out by now, it's that things in my family, especially vacations, are never uneventful. I'll be back later this week to tell you how we got lost on the lake in the dark, how my sister's 13 year old lab almost met her maker, and why my mom is now hiring a lawyer...

Ohhhhh boats & their plugs! We forgot to put the plug in ours once. Fun times! Luckily, we remembered before it was too late! Can't wait to hear all about your weekend!
