Kick in the pants, slap in the face, whatever you want to call it, I got it.

My sister, brother-in-law, and I had our first surf session of the summer this weekend. I suited up in my spring suit. The water is 72, but that's not quite warm enough for me to brave it bare back.

I was super excited. I got that nervous burst of energy I always get before heading into the water. Why? Who knows - the waves aren't big enough to really hurt anyone.

I was good to go for the first 10, maybe 15 minutes. And then I hit a wall. A big, ugly, cinder block wall.

This girl is straight up out. of. shape.

Yes, I've been going to the gym. I've been doing some strength training/toning. I even run on the elliptical for all of about 15 minutes.

I admit it. I have the endurance of a 90 year old woman.

And I have no good excuse for it. After my 15 minute jog, I'm not even out of breath. The only reason I quit is because I flat out get bored.

I can watch TV, listen to music, read a book, read a magazine, talk to someone, whatever, but I literally stare at the clock the entire time I'm on that stupid thing, praying for the second I hit 15 minutes just so I can move on to something else.

Treadmill? If I don't 100% focus, I will fall over. I don't know what it is about those things, but my balance on them sucks.

Bike? Bad knees. No thanks.

So, it's not a "try-a-new-machine" kind of problem. I just am bored-out-of-my-mind!

But, after almost drowning in 3' of water realizing how out of shape I am, I know that I need to man up and deal.

So today at the gym, I'm not touching the weights. No ab machines for me. No hip abductions.

Today, I'm going to conquer the elliptical. I'm going to run until I can't run anymore and then I'm going to run a little more.

So, if I don't come back for a few days, you'll know that I died trying.

Right? :-)

JK. Please don't call the authorities if I don't come back for a few days. I promise if I die it will be in a much cooler way than that & you'll probably hear about me on national news. Seriously JK. Promise.

  2. Haha! I know what you mean about getting bored running! If my gym didn't have tv's at the treadmills, I'd lose my mind.

  3. I LOVE the elliptical. Treadmills bother me, and I prefer the low-impact stuff. I can stay on an elliptical forever!
