Pick me, GMA!
Did you know that when you request tickets to be on GMA, that they make you come up with an interesting/fun/unique story about you and your family/traveling companions?
That's a lot easier said than done. At least for me.
And they don't like to hear about birthdays, even though this trip is for our birthdays in August, September, and October. To me, that's pretty cool. They see that all the time. They're unimpressed.
Let's see... there was the time that I almost drowned when I fell into the deep end of the pool and my lifeguard sister came to my rescue. But that's not funny, interesting, or unique.
Or the time that my sister left the cap off of her hairspray bottle and I decided I wanted hairspray like my sister, so I poured the entire bottle on my head and my mom had to call poison control. That's not funny, interesting, or unique either.
One time when my parents went out of town, my sister had to play "mom" and take me to my parent teacher conferences in her 1976 VW Bus. A deer ran into the side of her van and knocked out the headlight and put such a large dent in the side, that she swore she hit a person and listened to the news for days waiting on them to say they were looking for a hit-and-run drier. That was definitely not funny.
But these are the stories I remember, growing up. They weren't funny, but they were memorable! Unfortunately, that's not what GMA is looking for...
So, I settled on this story: When my sister was in school in Wilmington, she had a pet iguana, Jed, that was about 6' in length. That sucker was huge and if I could access my parent's pictures, I'd show you one. She loved loved loved that little guy and one day, he escaped the house and climbed a tree in her front yard. She called the fire department and they came over with their ladder truck to get Jed out of the tree. The local news was so interested that they put her on the 6:00 news. My mom rushed to pick me up from day care after work that day, and even though it was raining, she rushed home, because we accessed one Wilmington news station at home. She was driving so fast that she got pulled over in our driveway and we ended up missing the entire broadcast. Of course, it wouldn't have mattered, because it turned out that we didn't even get that Wilmington station, but I left that part out of the story.
The story isn't really funny, but it's definitely unique. I don't know if it will get us anywhere, but it was worth a shot!
And if you thought you were going to get off the hook without some more convention pictures, you were sorely mistaken. The "professional" pictures are in...
We were walking around scavenging for goodies from the vendors.
J, with one of the company reps we went out to dinner with
Winning the cash money!!
That would be JW with the Kindle I begged him to give me. No go. He'll be selling it on ebay.
This was our bocce ball competition. They beat us. BAD. But they were so nice about it!
Y'all, can I just tell you how awful I am at horse shoes? I'm surprised that guy didn't ask for new competition...
The guy on the left cracked me up. I kept making fun of him for wearing shoes on the beach, and he swore it was because he didn't have flip flops. Why not go barefoot? That's what I asked. Later, it came out that he had a full pedicure going on & the sand would've totally messed it up!
This guy was responsible for the jokes that carried us through the weekend.
That's the face of someone who was just told to "thump their thymus".
It's okay, it was just as weird as it looks.
And just in case the earlier pictures didn't quite do the band justice...
Eeek.
