NYC Recap Day 1

I'm baaaaack! And I am oh-so-tired! These were the hours we kept:
Friday 3am - 12am
Saturday 6am - 1am
Sunday 8am - 2am
Monday 5am - thenIcrashedintobedat9:30pm (the first pm of the entire trip!)

I'm normally a 7:30am - 10:30pm kind of girl. Those hours were ridiculous! I took a record breaking 192 pictures over the course of four days, so I'm just going to break this into four parts. I usually hate to do that because I hate when other people ramble and ramble about the same thing over multiple posts, but I am not going to force you to look at four days worth of pictures in one sitting!

Friday morning, we had to catch our flight at 6am, and it was raining. Not to mention our airport isn't very fancy, so we had to walk about 100 yards onto the tarmac in the rain! We were more than ready to get out of there!

I am definitely used to being able to check in early to a hotel, which was not the case when we got to our hotel in Times Square. Check in was at 3:00 and our room wasn't ready until almost 6:00! We walked around and took some pictures of our surroundings.
Standing right outside our hotel doors - how crazy!
The streets were this busy 24/7.
It was so crazy to see it all in person after only seeing Times Square on TV.
Chicago promoters.
Our hotel - we were on the 42nd floor, which was the second highest. When we got on the elevator, with about 10 other people, I asked my mom what floor we were on. Being from the land of short hotels, she replies with "I guess the 4th." So I hit the 4th floor, while everyone else presses 23rd, 35th, etc. "Really? The 4th floor? Mom, what's our room number?" She replies "4202." At no point did she figure we were on the 42nd floor. It's okay, everyone on the elevator wanted to make a pit stop on the fourth floor.. right?

We finally got into our hotel room and had an amazing view.
My sister was so excited that she bent over to look out the window... she quickly realized her head wasn't going to go to far when she smacked it into the glass so hard that she ended up on her butt on the floor. :-) We have a picture of that, too, but it's on her camera.

Later that night, we had our first Broadway show: Phantom of the Opera. It wasn't my first choice and my suspicions about it not being my favorite were confirmed. Maybe it was the fact that it was approximately 52 degrees in the theater. Maybe it was because I had been up since 3 am. I just couldn't follow. I couldn't understand what they were singing, so I just had to try to figure out what they were doing. It was a 2 hour show and I was starting to have an anxiety attack at the end because I was so tired and I couldn't figure out when it was going to end. I think I would've enjoyed it more if we had picked a different night to go.
 She was super excited!
 My momma.
 My sister.
The falling chandelier & the cherubs that the Phantom descends from

We had this crazy usher lady at the Phantom of the Opera, too. She was normal at first. She took us to our seats & handed us our programs. And then she started to flip out. She saw a man with a video camera, who was only using it to take pictures with, and instead of saying something to him, she stops in the middle of seating someone & just starts yelling "VIDEO CAMERA! VIDEO CAMERA!" and then seats the couple. About five minutes later she finally wanders over to the man with the camera to yell at him. Then after intermission, she was standing in a corner yelling about how she was invisible and no one could see her. I'm talking certifiable.

Times Square after dark was gorgeous. It was crazy, though, because you'd walk out of a store and by the amount of light on the ground, it would look like daylight & then you looked up and realized it was pitch black up there.
I slept with my sister the first night on the fold out in the living room of our suite because the view was so gorgeous. I was quickly reminded that she steals the covers and I sleep in the middle of the bed. It's been about 15 years since we shared a bed! So neither one of us slept well and we were super tired the next day, but that was the theme for the weekend!

Next up, day 2.
