Crazy Hectic Weekend: A Recap

I finally found the time to sit down for five minutes for the first time since Thursday... unfortunately, that happens to be at my desk, in my office. I seriously need a weekend to recuperate from the weekend!

Thursday afternoon, my co-worker, J, and I headed up to the super-super-nice-we-would-never-be-able-to-afford-this-if-it-wasn't-for-the-conference hotel that our convention was being held at. First things first, cocktail hour. The drink of the evening was something involving Southern Comfort, Peach Schnapps, cranberry juice, and 7-Up. This was not a good idea on an empty stomach. I was also wearing high heels and standing on carpet. I'm pretty sure as many times as I almost fell over, everyone thought I was a little wastey-face, but, hey, that's usually the theme at those conventions, so I fit in just fine. They had a door prize drawing and I won $100 cash money. That was pretty exciting. We finished out the evening with dinner at a place that was reminiscent of a strip club, but I didn't have to pay for it - I would've eaten on the cat walk if I had to! :-)

Friday morning we had a class on the power of positive thinking. This guy was outside his right mind. He taught about everyone's individual aura and energy bubble. And needle-less acupuncture. And tapping your thymus repeatedly. You can see the things I took from the class - all the things that can be laughed at, but no real point to the class. It was entertainment, at least!

We were supposed to head to the water park on Friday afternoon, but it turns out you had to buy tickets in addition to the registration fee. We thought they were included, and rather than purchase the tickets out of our pockets, J & I decided to go blow our $100 (she won $100 too, I forgot to mention that) at the outlets. We tried really hard, but couldn't find anything to spend it on - doesn't that always happen?

One of the big companies took us out to a fine dining restuarant on Friday night. Let me tell you - I am not a fine dining type of girl. I am an elbows on the table, eat with my hands kind of girl. BUT, I trucked through four courses. One of the company reps, responsible for our bill sat beside me. I caught a sneak peek & about hit the roof. Um, I'm pretty sure I could find a lot of things to spend that much money on! It was a very good steak, though. I'm pretty sure it was made of gold!

Saturday morning's class started with "Just an announcement. We will be at the beach this afternoon and there will be alcoholic beverages. Do not act any more stupid than you already do. If you see the cops, run." The class was ridiculously boring, but a guy friend of ours who doesn't read & I swear doesn't own a book, won a Kindle. Go figure. I tried to convince him since the next day was my birthday that he should just hand it on over, but no go.

We hung out on the beach as a group on Saturday afternoon. J & I tried to play bocce ball, corn hole, & horse shoes, but lost so bad in bocce & horse shoes that we forfeited corn hole.

Saturday night was the closing banquet which involved a 60s/70s/80s hair metal cover band. What I didn't understand was why they chose that band - the conference was for agents under 40... most of us weren't old enough to know half the songs, but we had plenty of entertainment in watching the older ones shake it. I managed to snap some crappy pictures just for evidence:
Let me point out that the guy on the right is wearing orange high top Chucks and purple camo pants. Later he appeared in a Clemson purple & orange pimp suit and even later had a Clemson bandana tied around his cowboy hat.

It was just a little ridiculous. The entire convention was a ton of fun. J even won $200 on the last night. She offered to split it with me for my birthday - I should've taken her up on it! I really can't wait for next year's event. I made a lot of new friends and got to know a lot of people in the industry. I'm pulling for the convention to be in another location next year, so I don't have to worry about driving home every night - that's a pain!

Yesterday was my birthday! I was hoping to lay on the beach and do nothing, but the weather didn't agree. We spent the day cleaning the house & praying for the rain to stop before our cookout. It did, thankfully, and we had a lot of fun!

I had a helper - check out that wrapping paper!

My SIL & my oldest niece - I am envious of that girl's tan!

This weekend was so much fun and the only thing missing was a little more sleep! I only have four days to get caught up on sleep and work and it's off to NYC! My sister actually bought a book on things to do in NYC when you're broke and/or cheap. There's actually a place you can go for free clothing - they ask for a donation of $10 - and you can take what you want. I asked if it was called Goodwill! Apparently it's legit - I'll let you know if we check it out!

How was your weekend?

  6. The conference sounds like so much fun! I kind of wish my work did something like that, but during the week so I didn't have to give up my weekend time. No wonder you need time to recover!
