Big News! (At least for me, anyway)
I bet you can't guess where I'll be celebrating my birthday!! And my mom's birthday!! And my sister's birthday!!
But since I've all but given it away, NEW YORK CITY, here we come!
I know, you're probably thinking, NYC, whoopty-doo. Why are you so excited?
I'll tell you why.
Because the last (and only) time I was there, I was 12. It was snowing. And we had a 3 hour plane layover on our way to Israel.
I saw Rockefeller Center. That's it.
I don't remember any of it.
I am for-real-willing-to-do-almost-anything to get to an H&M.
I love love love Broadway plays.
I wanted to go to grad school at Pratt. Back when I wanted to go to grad school.
Good. Morning. America.
I've always wanted to pretend I'm a city girl. Even though we all know I'm a beach girl at heart.
You see, AJ is from Long Island. But he won't take me.
I mean, I don't blame him. He knows I'd just want to shop all day.
But, I do resent the following comments he made last night:
"Babe, it's called MANHATTAN ISLAND. It's an island. Just like Long Island."
"Just like they call it Wall Street because it happens on Wall Street, that's how Broadway got it's name..."
"Times Square is ON Manhattan island. So is Central Park, so when you say Manhattan, you mean all of it."
And the best, his response to this question: How do people who live in NYC get their groceries? I mean, they can't just drive down to the BiLo? Blank stare.
Like I was supposed to know. I mean, really.
I fully intend on visiting the following:
Those are obvious.
PotO wasn't my first choice, but it's my mom's.
And we'll be those tacky tourists riding around on this:
Oh yeah, so if you see us, make sure to wave!
I am incredibly easily embarrassed by family/friends who act like tourists, so I'll be the red-faced one, accompanying these two:
(I'm pretty sure my mom will be sporting her fanny pack.)
We're quite lucky that we have birthdays in 3 consecutive months. It gives us an excuse to take off the NYC for an extended weekend!
But, here's my question to you dear readers: What is the one thing in NYC that we absolutely MUST do?

[[insert dirty looks & foot-stompin']] *super jealous*
ReplyDeleteI have no advise since I have never been to NY....I hope you have a blast....can't wait to hear about it!
Have a great holiday weekend!
oh yay!! congrats, and have fun! look forward to seeing pictures!
ReplyDeleteSounds fun fun! There's a place in Times Square that you have to wait until the day of to buy tickets for plays and such...I highly recommend it. Usually when we go (well when my mom and I used to go, not any more), we'd buy like one plan in advance like a popular one, then pick a few when we got there...way cheaper AND usually ones that aren't big yet but still really good. Can't wait to hear about the trip!
ReplyDeleteI second the buying the tickets from that place. I think it's called TKTS. You should definitely go to the Empire State Building just because the view is amazing. I prefer it at night, but it's cool no matter what time of day you go. South Street Seaport is a cool place to shop. I don't recall what's there, but both of the field trips I went on to NY took us there. And of course 5th Avenue. Hmm. I don't know what else. I only went for a weekend twice. Once was in February, and it was FREEZING so we didn't want to do much walking around. The other time, my best friend and I told our parents we were spending the weekend at the beach with our friends and their parents and instead hopped a bus to NYC to visit our friend at college, and being in high school without jobs, we didn't really have money to do anything fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely jealous! I know you guys will have an awesome time.
i am SO jealous! i've never been to NYC and I can't wait to go!
ReplyDeleteYou're going to have so much fun! NYC is the best city in the World! Take lots of pictures!
ReplyDeleteTiffany & Co. on 5th Avenue. Even if you have no intention of buying anything, it's an experience... every floor is bigger than a normal store, and there are at least 5 floors.
ReplyDeleteCentral Park. If you have any love for the Beatles, go to Strawberry Fields. There's an incredible feeling there.
And a Yankees game. There is NOTHING like the crowd in the Bronx on game day. But don't go there unless there's a game. :)
You'll have the BEST time!!!
Oh! I also wanted to say, I lived in a big city for a whole semester, and I still have no clue how they get their groceries. I went home on the weekends and brought groceries back with me. hahaha.
ReplyDeleteSo jealous! But good for you! My best friend lives there, and there is nothing more fun than the Big Apple!
ReplyDeletesounds like you have a lot of great plans! I am also SUPER jealous of you going to NYC, I have never been & that is on my to do list before the baby comes.... but it looks like my dream NYC vacation is going to be put on hold for a while until after Maggie makes her appearance in this world! I can't wait to hear all about your fun trip.... Happy Birthday to you!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'll have to think of some good things to do while you're visiting. NYC is so much fun!
ReplyDeleteSomething totally random, if you really like hot dogs, you definitely need to get one from Gray's Papaya....amazing! lol There's one in Soho and Greenwich Village, I *think*. I try and go there every time we visit the city!
Oh, and definitely get some cupcakes from Crumbs! (can you tell I like food??) There's one right near Times Square, too. They're DELISH!
I'll let you know if I think if anything else. ;)
