I need a nap.
If you're a client of mine, you'd be best advised not to call me today.
Because if you do, you might just get "This is Hilary, can I----zzzzzz... *sound of head hitting keyboard*."
This girl channeled her inner teeny bopper/indie music lover to travel to Wilmington for The Spring Standards & Wakey!Wakey! concert last night. My late-20's co-worker, Jenny, and I made our best attempt at "putting together a concert outfit" (what happened to the days when normal clothes were a concert outfit?) and hung in there with the best of the high schoolers, who hands were all adorned with black Sharpied X's. Oooh, the days.
First of all, I want to rave about The Spring Standards. I hadn't heard much of them when we got there, but they will seriously rock your world. The band is made of two guys and a girl. They don't have a drummer, so they split the drums up between the three of them and they each play a section, while playing their own instruments. At one point, the leading lady was playing the drums, the keyboard, the xylophone, and singing at the same time. I'm pretty sure she had an extra arm we just couldn't see. They also had a harpsicord and a trumpet, in addition to the guitar & bass.
Jenny was so mesmerized that after their set, that she approached one of the band members to ask what the name of their cd was. He answered her and asked her how she liked the set. She was so excited to be talking to the band that she came back without the slightest clue what the name of their cd was.
Before the show, we were hanging out at the bar, downstairs, where the very hippie bartender was trying to sell us his handmade koozie. Jenny asked to take a look at it and it was very much a cut off sock. He has a patent pending and sells them for $5 each. He'll probably end up a millionaire off of what he calls a "bottle freaker."
I hadn't been to the Soapbox in years, but the minute I stepped in there it was like a wave of memories came flooding back. I'm glad I spent some time chasing bands, but I sure don't miss those days!
Michael Grubbs from Wakey!Wakey! wasn't quite as friendly as I had hoped. :-( I guess that's what you get for watching someone's TV character first and then meeting them later. Their music was awesome - I guess that's what matters most!!
When we were leaving the venue to head back to the car, I stopped dead in my tracks and screamed "OH MY GOD! THERE IT IS!" I'm pretty sure Jenny thought I was being attacked by the homeless man who had accosted us for money earlier. We had been looking for the "Karen's Cafe" mural that I knew was downtown somewhere. I had seen it before, visiting my brother in Wilmington, but I couldn't pinpoint where it was at. We literally parked about 10 feet away from it and had walked right past it, but since we were looking for a place to eat, we hadn't noticed it. Since the last time I've seen it, they've added "Clothes over Bro's" awnings. I was able to get a picture with it, and it totally made up for the fact that Jenny was able to get a picture with Grubbs & he definitely walked away when I tried to scoot in.
At midnight, we finally made it back to the car to start the trek back home. Of course things couldn't go smoothly. The bridge that takes you back to the highway (that we used to get there earlier in the day) was closed at night for construction. We had to follow the detour which took us about 30 minutes out of the way.
I rolled into bed around 2:30 and I woke up to the most obnoxious noise. I finally figured out how to make it stop and then starting playing with my phone to figure out how much longer I had before my alarm clock went off. It took about five minutes before I realized that the obnoxious noise I had heard was my alarm clock.
The coffee is brewing. I've made a detailed to-do list so I don't have to think about much. I plan to make it as far as the couch before passing out after work.
This girl is getting too old for galivanting!
(Pictures will be posted as soon as I can stay awake long enough to post them!)

Ugh, I know what you mean! I'm much more content to make it an early night and head home to snuggle on the couch with the bf. Going out to concerts, bars, parties, etc is too hard on my 25 year old body! lol
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun night though!
ReplyDeleteHow are you liking House Rules?
I went to bed at 10 and I'm still doing the head bob over here. Haha. Thank goodness I get to leave early today...never thought I'd be so excited for a trip to the DMV!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a fun night!! I definiitely wouldn't be able to do 2am nights anymore. lol
ReplyDeleteOh, and I think you may be my new BFF....One Tree Hill is my favorite! ;) And, that really sucks that whatshisface wasn't very friendly to you. What a jerk. I hope you get some rest and get to bed early tonight!
I know what you mean. Exhausting! I can't hang like I used to! I always have a splitting headache after a late night...and the kids at work don't help!
