Show Us Your Life: Baby Names & Fill in the Blank Friday

We're half-staff down at work today and things are craaazy, but I can't stare at anymore numbers or my eyes are going to cross - so I'm taking a quick break and knocking out two birds with one stone.

Over at Kelly's Korner, it's Show Us Your Life: Baby Names. AJ & I have no need for baby names as of yet, so I'm going to tell you about our FURbabies' names. :-)

Trey - is our kitty cat. I am not one for naming animals after human names, and this one wasn't meant to turn out like that. When I rescued Trey, while I was in college, I thought he was a she. I adopted him around 6 weeks, and was told that he was most definitely a girl. So, I named "her" Trea (pronounced Trey-a). At the time, I didn't realize I knew a Trea (pronouned Tree-a). Well, I found out a couple weeks later that he was definitely a boy and I figured he was already used to his name, so I dropped the "ah" from the end of his name and he became Trey. Now, our pastor's name is Trey, and I regret picking a human name for my cat!

Costa - it took AJ & I about an hour to pick our chocolate lab's name. We had no idea that we'd come home with a dog after we decided on the spur of the moment to go look at the litter. We threw names back and forth until we settled on Costa, for Costa Rica. If we get another lab, we'll name her Cerveza or Mahi. My sister's dog's name is Dia. Apparently our family has a thing for Spanish pet names.

But don't let me fool you, I have pointed out some future future future baby names that I like. Of course, AJ & I hardly ever agree. We've decided that we'll have to buy a baby name book and both take turns going through and highlighting names we like to see what we come up with. My recent favorites have been Syndey for a girl (but one of my high school/college friends that I still talk to named her little girl that - is that weird?) and Liam, Asher, and Nate for boys. AJ doesn't like any of those. I'm sure my preferences will change though, by the time we need to pick out a name. I have this philosophy where I really don't like to plan things before they happen. For example, with our wedding, I didn't think about one single detail that I wanted until AJ proposed. The same goes for babies. I don't like to plan names, nursery decor, or anything until we actually find ourselves there. Otherwise, I'll drive myself nuts!

Next up, is Fill in the Blank Friday at Lauren's:

1. My favorite book growing up was the Beverly Cleary series. Loved Ramona.
2. The funniest book I've ever read was hmm, this is hard one. I guess The Fixer-Upper by Mary Kay Andrews - although it wasn't laugh out loud funny. Cute funny.
3. The one book that has truly changed my life is Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott. Check it out.
4. If you're looking for a real "tear jerker" you should probably read Marley & Me by John Grogan or The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein.
5. If I could meet any author living or dead I would want to meet Jodi Picoult. I want to pick her brain. And figure out how in the world she does such great research for her books.
6. The next book on my "to read" list is I posted about that here.
7. If I was snowed into remote cabin in the woods and could only choose three books to bring with me I'd bring could I bring a Kindle? I swear I'd only have 3 books on it at a time. (Actually, for all other intents & purposes, I'm anti-Kindle.)

My sister in law is graduating from Clemson today!! Woo! AJ & I couldn't make it because of our work schedules, but, right now, I've got the webcast on in the background. I have to go scour all the black caps for her!! Have a great weekend!

  2. Liam is one of my all-time favorite boy names! (:

And congratulations to your SIL - so exciting!

And RAMONA! My sisters best friend named her daughter after the books, we all grew up with it, some of my favorites (:

And as for the parents fabricating things at the aquarium - they will just say things like "see that baby shark, thats a baby great white!" when it's really a mako or a salmon shark. or "did you see all the animals in there, those were all reptiles!" (when they were amphibians). it's little stuff - but it makes me sad that a kid will go on for a while thinking the wrong stuff, when we're there to give information!

  3. I have been tossing around the idea of a kindle. But I think I like having an actual book in my hands. I loved Ramona too although I lived and died for Babysitters Club books!
