Vacay Reads

I had already started The Pirate's Daughter when we left for vacation. It was a $.30 pickup at a book sale. It was a good book though. I had no idea that one of the characters, Errol Flynn, actually did exist back in the 1940s-1960s. Oops. So, it had some history in it too, right? If you're headed on vacation any time soon, it's perfect. After all, it's based in Jamaica.

I really really can't wait for this movie to come out, and though I would've probably spared myself the let-down that comes with watching a movie after reading the book by reversing the order, I was determined to finish it within the week, since AJ got it for me for my birthday. It was amazing. Check it out, if you haven't already.

4 Blondes was written by Candice Bushnell, the author of Sex and the City. It has to be good, right? No. It's awful. I'm 60 pages in and I'm taking it back to the library, asap. Horrible read. Don't bother. I don't even know where to begin, except that there is zero depth, and one page is filled with:
"I'm with..." insert famous writer here.
"Well, come to dinner, both you and..." insert said famous writer here.
"Come on..." insert author boyfriend here.
It's HORRIBLE. I mean, it was clever once, to omit the fictional famous author's name. Not three times. On one page. Ugh.
Whew, end rant. But, please, save yourself the time and don't bother picking this one up.

Next on my list are these:
The Fixer Upper by Mary Kay Andrews
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
However, I'm in line for those at the library, so I need something in the meantime. Any suggestions?

  1. The last book I read was Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes. I really liked it, but I like girly books.

The Shopaholic series is good, too. I read a few of her other books and loved them..

    I'm about to start re-reading Twilight. :-)

  2. Have you read any of Jen Lancaster's books?? I've read the first one, Bitter is the New Black, and her dry, sarcastic sense of humor had me laughing the whole way through.

I also love Emily Giffin. She's an amazing author. Check it out, she had 4 books. Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Baby Proof and Love the one you're with.
