Puppy Toooooths.

AJ came home from work today to find that Costa had broken off one of her canine teeth. Not only did the tip break off, it has split most of the way up the tooth. There are probably like 2-3 mm of tooth left. It's obviously a baby tooth (she's only 11 weeks), but it's keeps slowly bleeding. She can't help but to chew on anything available, so she's not helping it. We've rinsed it with salt water. We called two vets. One told us that it should be okay unless it's gushing blood. The other one told us that we needed to bring her in. The first actually asked the vet about it. Unfortunately, that's not where we take her. We take her to the latter, because it's cheaper (and obviously the quality is poorer).

Have any of you had a puppy break a tooth like this? What did you do? Did it eventually stop bleeding and work itself out?

  1. He'll be okay...let him chew on things (that you dont mind getting bloody) like an old dish rag, old teddy bear, a chew toy....and it will come out....

I found teeth everywhere when Mac was a puppy and would look in his mouth and a new one would be starting soon.

I really think he'll be fine....! put him in his cage with an old towel tonight.

  2. The little guy should be fine! If hes showing signs of pain - take him in and get him some medication. Make sure it doesn't swell around the area or show signs of infection.

But otherwise, let him chew on soft toys (rags, socks, etc..) & try to keep rawhide & bones away for the time being.

Make sure you keep an eye on him though, to make sure the bleeding doesn't get worse & eventually stops.

    Take care!
